Michigan Tech to hold annual Foundry Fest

MTU campus mallMichigan Tech logoMichigan Technological University (MTU) is inviting NFFS members and subscribers to join them on their Houghton, Michigan, campus for Foundry Fest, to help showcase the wide variety of jobs available in the foundry industry. Foundry Fest is part of the university's week-long Career Fair. This year's event will showcase a portable cupola furnace in full operation, providing a rare and immersive experience for students, faculty, and the community.

Event Highlights

  • Portable Cupola Furnace Demonstrations: Experience the magic of metal casting with live demonstrations using a portable cupola furnace. Watch as molten metal is poured into molds, transforming raw materials into intricate castings right before your eyes.
         
  • Student Mold Design and Casting: Students will have the unique opportunity to design their own molds and see designs come to life as molten metal is poured onsite. This hands-on experience offers a practical glimpse into the world of metalworking and engineering.
         
  • Foundry Industry Recruiting: Students will network with representatives from your companies who will be onsite recruiting talent. Students will learn about exciting career opportunities, internships, and co-op programs. Bring your shiny toys and be prepared to discuss your company's skills and ambitions with potential employees.
         
  • Interactive Exhibits: Bring exhibits that delve into the science and technology behind metal casting. Engage with displays that illustrate the various stages of production, from pattern making to finishing, and display the innovative techniques used by foundries and industry companies.
         
  • Meet the Experts: Students will connect with engineers, metallurgists, and skilled craftsmen from various foundries like Waupaca and industry companies like H.B. Carbide. Gain insights into their experiences, the challenges they face, and the advancements shaping the future of the industry. Get valuable advice on pursuing a career in metal casting and engineering.
