NFFS joins multi-industry efforts to advocate for practical regulations
The Non-Ferrous Founders' Society (NFFS) Government Affairs Committee continues to represent the concerns and interests of non-ferrous foundries by engaging with regulatory agencies on critical issues impacting the industry. Recently, the NFFS GAC joined two important industry coalition efforts to advocate for more fair and practical regulations.
First, NFFS signed onto a coalition letter led by the American Chemistry Council addressing the EPA’s Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) assessment for formaldehyde. The letter raises significant concerns about the assessment’s methodology and its potential to disrupt the availability of key resin binder systems critical to foundry operations. Ensuring that the EPA adopts science-based standards that consider industry realities is essential to avoiding unintended consequences for manufacturers.
Additionally, NFFS joined comments developed by the Coalition for Workplace Safety on OSHA’s proposed Heat Injury and Illness Prevention Rule. The coalition emphasized the need for regulations that balance workplace safety with realistic implementation requirements, particularly regarding extensive monitoring and training provisions. These comments reflect the foundry industry's commitment to protecting workers while avoiding overly burdensome requirements that could hinder operations.
By aligning with these industry coalitions, NFFS underscores its dedication to advocating for policies that safeguard both worker safety and the operational viability of its member foundries. For copies of either the IRIS formaldehyde letter, or the CWS comments on OSHA's heat rule, contact NFFS.
