Aluminum Association releases December 2024 Primary Aluminum Production data
The Aluminum Association has published its latest report on U.S. and Canadian primary aluminum production, providing key insights into North American output trends. According to the report, North American primary aluminum production totaled 3,993.7 thousand metric tons (kmt) in December 2024, reflecting a 3.9% decline from the December 2023 annual rate of 4,154.7 kmt.
On a month-over-month basis, production levels remained largely unchanged from November 2024, when the annual production rate stood at 3,994.9 kmt. Total primary aluminum production for the year declined by 1.7%, with 3,992.9 kmt produced in 2024 compared to 4,060.9 kmt in 2023.
This data, compiled from industry surveys conducted by the Aluminum Association and the Aluminium Association of Canada, provides valuable benchmarking information for foundries and aluminum industry stakeholders.

Reminder: Participate in the Aluminum Association’s Foundry Shipments Survey
NFFS reminds its aluminum foundry members to participate in the Aluminum Association’s Foundry Shipments Survey, which is currently open and closes on February 21st. As previously discussed, this survey provides a critical opportunity to help generate a comprehensive picture of aluminum casting shipments across North America for both 2023 and 2024. Survey participants will receive the final report and detailed data files in early April, offering valuable insights for benchmarking and market analysis.
NFFS member aluminum foundries should have received an email with a direct link to the online survey administered via Qualtrics. If you have not received the survey link or need further details, please contact Sydney Masterson at smasterson@aluminum.org or (703) 358-2990.
