North American aluminum production up 6.6% in September

Based on Aluminum Association surveys, the estimated annual rate of U.S. primary aluminum
production totaled 779.5 thousand metric tons (kmt) during September 2023, an increase of 3.8 percent
over the September 2022 annual rate of 750.8 kmt. Compared to the previous month, the annual rate
of production rose seven-tenths of a percent over the August 2023 annual rate of 774.0 kmt. The yearto-
date production rate for 2023 totaled 780.5 kmt, down 14.0 percent from the 2022 year-to-date rate
of 907.2 kmt. Estimated production for the month of September 2023 totaled 64.1 kmt.

This report represents 100 percent of estimated U.S. primary aluminum production during September
2023.

Canada
The Aluminium Association of Canada reports that primary aluminium production in Canada in September 2023 totalled 271,364 metric tons. The monthly production was down -3.29% in comparison with the month of August 2023. The year-to-date average daily production is 8,906 tons. Compared to last year, the annual projection of production would be up by 7.15%.
