NFFS announces 2023 NFFS Scholarship recipient

On November 17, 2023, NFFS staff member Erin Russell awarded the 2023 NFFS Scholarship to Glenn Muzzy, a junior at Penn State. The $2,500 scholarship was presented during the Foundry Educational Foundation’s 2023 College Industry Conference Awards Luncheon.
Glenn is a junior at Penn State and is studying Industrial Engineering with an emphasis in metalcasting. He has a 3.05 GPA and is the Vice President of the Penn State Chapter of the American Foundry Society. He will graduate in May 2025.
Glenn has spent the last two summers working as an intern at the non-ferrous foundry and NFFS member Buck Company, where he rotated through the various departments of the foundry. His responsibilities included charging, melting, degassing, and pouring aluminum. He also worked with green sand testing, automatic molding on DISA, Hunter, and Sinto molding
machines, shell and isocure coremaking, and finishing.
In the essay accompanying his scholarship application, Glenn wrote, “My long-term plan [is] to use my internship-based foundry experience along with my Industrial Engineering education to get an entry-level supervisory or engineering role in the foundry industry where I can gain more practical and leadership experience. Combining my education with current and future work experience, I believe I can realize considerable career growth within metalcasting with the ultimate goal of a higher-level leadership position in the industry. As you can see, I have the full intention of being a second generation foundryman.”
Jerrod Weaver, Executive Director of the Non-Ferrous Founders’ Society, stated: “It is never easy to choose from the many deserving students who apply for a NFFS scholarship. NFFS is proud to issue this year’s scholarship to Glenn Muzzy, and we wish him the best of luck in his career.”
